I ALWAYS use gloves!!! Otherwise your hands will be a reddish/purple (and then everyone will know you did it yourself! I may or may not have learned that the hard way!)
I use Loreal Excellence Hi Color: H5 Soft Auburn (find it at Sally Beauty!)
Gloves and applicator bottle. I put it on my roots for 20 minutes and then all over my hair for 15. It takes 1 and a half tubes of the hair color and I use a two to one ratio of developer. (I use more developer than it says, because my color turns out better. I also use the volume 30 not 20 because I like the color better that way) It's easy-peasy and I love the color!
As for the sale I was pretty good!! Even though I REALLY want this but am going to pass! I may or may not track down the Frill Force Jacket today!
*If you do dye your hair and it's all jacked please don't blame me, I am not telling you to dye your hair just sharing how I do it! What works for me may differ for you. Please read all instructions before dyeing!
Your disclaimer just cracked me up! I'd love to try red hair color sometime, but I'm not sure I'm bold enough to do something drastic...Your color looks so natural, healthy and gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou NEED the Frill Force in your life. So does Jessica. And the Tria sweaterskirt was too much for me to resist.
It's funny that you posted this because I have mine done at the salon. The girl that does it is on maternity leave so another gal has filled in. She told me last appt. I should just do it myself. So guess what? You've inspired me to save money and do it myself. I am sure she is more than willing to tell me what I need to purchase and Sally's is right down my road!! Thanks Trica!!
ReplyDeleteMy BF's mom is the queen of how NOT to DIY your own hair. That woman will get a perm one day, wash it out as soon as she gets home, then home-dye her day the next day, and then spend all of day three freaked out because her hair looks like a bomb exploded! Worse yet, she admittedly knows better yet impatience always wins out on her end!
ReplyDeleteI write this bc I am afraid to do any highlights at home bc I've had the BF's mom help me DIY my first (and last) time. Uh, never again, please?!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was brave enough to dye my own hair at home. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I didn't start coloring my hair until I was 25. Sometimes I wish I had never started, but it's fun to let someone do my hair for 3 hours. I feel pampered, which is always nice. I should learn how to do it myself because it would save me so much money. You definitely know what you're doing because you hair looks fabulous. I love the color.
ReplyDeleteI need to start coloring (too many gray hair popping up) and I am terrified to put anything in my hair. I've never had highlights or color of any sort... I am a hair virgin =) I'm even nervous to go to the salon... it's that bad.
ReplyDeleteHi Tricia, thanks for posting about the hair dye. I do my own as well and you are right, it saves lots of money. I have been under the weather lately so I am just checking in on everyone else to see what they are to. Have a great one!!! Dawn Suitcase Vignettes:D
ReplyDeleteI had my husband order the Tria Sweater Skirt for me since I can't buy it and it got cancelled! Grr...
ReplyDeleteOmg, i love that you put a disclaimer at the end.
ReplyDeletemy friend convinced me to color my own hair and I'm sooooo glad she did!!! Seriously, we color matched a Garnier color to the color right after I had it professionally done ($100+ later) and it's spot on!!! I use Garnier True Red. My hair is naturally red, but as I've gotten older, the vibrancy has really faded.
I love your color!
I'm so impressed that you color your own hair! It definitely looks professionally done -- and Pamela's too!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a good job. I'd be afraid I'd be frying my hair if I did it myself.
